Even though India is the country with the largest amount of movie releases every year it is still being overshadowed by the western film industry and Bollywood. We believe that the Indian film industries are underrated and that the movie enthusiasts of the world should definitely spend some time exploring this area. A lot of people around the world believe that the term Bollywood refers to every single Indian movie. That is simply not true. Hollywood refers to the entire cinema of the United States while Bollywood only refers to the industry in the city of Mumbai that focuses on films in the Hindi language. There are many other industries that focus on other languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Bengali.

All of them very different, but similar in many ways too. You can quickly notice the similarity in the music, the dancing, and singing, the beautiful costumes, but you will also notice a lot of differences when it comes to directing, the camera angles, the acting, the script and so on.

The subtitles (intertitles in the past) were available in several different languages. Viewers had the option of watching in Hindi, Marathi and even in English.

During the Golden Era of Hollywood, the Indian Cinema had a huge influence from American films and most directors tried to emulate their style. This is when the Indian films started becoming recognized all over the world and when the entire cinema developed to such an advanced level.

Tollywood

Another very successful motion picture industry that works only with the Telugu language. Many natives believe that Tollywood has one of the most talented directors, actors, and music writers. Tollywood has also won thousands of awards and has even won a few Guinness World Records. D. Rama Naidu produced the largest number of motion pictures, Brahmanandam for having the biggest number of roles in pictures. There is evidence that Brahmanandam has had more than a thousand roles in his lifetime.

Bhojiwood

Through the name of this motion picture industry, you probably realize that it focuses on the Bhojpuri language. Bhojiwood has been more than 60 years in existence and the movies can be seen all over the world. Thousands of fans can be found in both South and Nort America, Eastern Europe and almost everywhere in Asia.

The first Bhojpuri film was in 1963 after the first president of India convinced the very famous actor at the time, Nazir Hussain, to find a role that speaks Bhojpuri. It was named Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo and was directed by Vishwanath Shahabadi. It is believed that in 2019, the net worth of the entire Bhojiwood is more than ₹2000 crores which are equivalent to three hundred million USD.
